Parkview Regional Medical Center - BMS, Fort Wayne, IN
VALUE DELIVERED
A more comfortable and productive environment; increased control of key facility systems; more flexible and convenient building management options; greater ability to comply with regulatory requirements; more effective management of systems that pertain to the client’s core business; ability to operate more energy efficiently; easier access to a wider range of healthcare services for the people of the region.
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
To fully integrate its building management system with other systems.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
Needing a contractor capable of dealing with today’s advanced facilities technologies, this client chose Havel to help it install a fully integrated building management system (BMS). Since the BMS permits internet access from anywhere in the world, Havel’s work on this project means that hospital engineering staff can adjust HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) operating sequences from any location. To achieve the client’s goals, Havel integrated the BMS with the client’s main power system, as well as with generators under automatic transfer switch control and an uninterruptible power supply system. The company also networked the boiler and chiller into the BMS. Finally, Havel integrated a number of systems used in core healthcare and other activities, such as the pneumatic tube system, the shade system, the irrigation system, and the temperature monitoring system for refrigerators, freezers, and blanket warmers. In spite of the project’s complexity, Havel completed all work on the client’s very aggressive schedule.
SOLUTIONS
Havel also helped the client with its compliance responsibilities by building custom refrigerator and freezer monitoring reports that enable the client to respond more effectively to stringent Joint Commission requirements. (The Joint Commission is the major source of accreditation for U.S. healthcare organizations and programs. In most states, this accreditation is a condition for licensing and for receiving Medicare funds.)
