Parkview Cancer Institute - BAS, Fort Wayne, IN
As a division of Shambaugh & Son (Shambaugh), Havel played an integral role during the construction of the Parkview Health System’s (Parkview) Cancer Institute, delivering a cutting-edge Building Automation System (BAS) for the project.
The Institute had to meet rigorous design and workmanship criteria expected by Parkview, while also maintaining a strict budget. Havel, along with Shambaugh’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection teams, combined their expertise to develop a cutting-edge design with a budget proposal that incorporated significant value-engineering deductions.
Parkview determined it needed to bring the best ideas from the nation's leading cancer centers and build them into one location, in order to offer a comprehensive array of cancer services under one roof. As a result a new 200,000-square-foot, five-story Cancer Institute was constructed on Parkview's main campus.
The project involved a wide array of complex construction and engineering challenges in order to accommodate the cancer center’s various healthcare services. Havel delivered a highly-advanced BAS that integrated an array of controls systems for the Institute, including:
- Complete HVAC system
- Power distribution and backup system
- Medical gas system
- Complete temperature trending
- Alarming for critical hospital equipment
- Irrigation system
- Backup domestic water distribution system
Parkview Health System is a network of over 80 community hospitals, clinics, and health facilities serving northern Indiana and northwest Ohio. For over 50 years, Parkview has partnered with Shambaugh and divisions like Havel on a variety of new construction, retrofit, and renovation projects.
